Custom Domains on Site44

Using Site44 to host Dropbox files for your own custom domain (like www.example.com) is very easy.

Purchasing a New Domain

If you're purchasing a new domain, we recommend that you purchase it with iwantmyname's special page for Site44 customers. When you do this, iwantmyname will automatically set up your new domain for use with Site44.

Once you're done, you just need to visit the admin page and click the "create a new website" button to associate your Site44 account with your domain.

Using an Existing Domain

If you already own a custom domain or are purchasing a new one from a provider other than iwantmyname, there are a few steps you need to take:

  1. Create a CNAME that will "alias" your site to "domains.site44.com". For instance, if you own example.com, you might alias www.example.com to domains.site44.com. (This may take up to an hour to take effect, though it's usually much faster.)

CNAME aliases do not apply to "naked" domains like example.com—they only apply to subdomains like www.example.com or blog.example.com. Site44 only supports subdomains; use "forwarding" (see below) to handle naked domains.

  2. [Optional] Forward your top-level domain to a subdomain. For instance, you might forward example.com to www.example.com. Without this, you may find that your naked domain doesn’t resolve to anything useful.

  3. Visit www.site44.com/admin and click the "create a new website" button to associate your Site44 account with your domain. (NOTE: You may have to wait until the CNAME has taken effect before this step will work.)
